|CLASSIC DIVE BOOKS
Enquiries and books for sale.
|A webpage for you the collector or anyone with
an interest in old diving books -
an enquiry perhaps, or books for sale.
IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE POSTING.
I have had over the years many enquiries on old books, with requests to value a book, or a 'how to sell' enquiry. I am not a valuer and thus cannot appraise a book's real value. And 'a considerable knowledge' of old diving books does not make me an antiquarian book expert. But, there may be someone 'out there' who can help with your enquiry or make an offer on your book. This webpage has been established to try and help you in some way.
If you have a book for sale, by all means post details of it here. All you need to do is email me with whatever details you like, and preferably send a small - repeat small - jpeg of the cover, say above 3 inches wide at 72 dpi. If you have a price, indicate it. If you are seeking offers, say so. And in all cases, be it for a general enquiry or a sale offer, include your general location - state and country is fine - a specific address is not required. In contacting me, I will assume that you are prepared to have your email address listed. If not, tell me so. Always include an appropriate detail in the 'subject' line of the email otherwise my spam blocker may reject it - 'Classic Dive Book Enquiry' would be a suggestion. All communication on your enquiry or sale is to be redirected to you - not to me. I will not broker any sales. All sales negotiation are between you and the customer. I will not enter into any deals and there will be no commission charged if you are successful with a sale. And of course I accept no responsibility if any sale encounters difficulties. You can also post your 'wants' on this webpage. I repeat, this is a totally free listing - there is NO commission. All I expect is a cup of good coffee when I visit your part of the woods!!.
In the unusual circumstances that you require complete annonimity, do contact me, but I don't promise any involvement if I am not happy about what is presented.
Readers - if you have an interest in the following postings, please contact the enquirer directly by the email address provided.

FOR SALE - ROYAL NAVY DIVING MANUAL BS155-1943
The book is scruffy but totally intact. The pullouts are intact but photo "03???????" shows an issue. I am prpeared to take a minimum of £100 (GBP) plus postage so I guess it should be listed for £120 (GBP) as I'm sure I will be beaten down. It's a duplicate but I don't want to give it away. It is stamped HMS Defiance, see extra photo of HMS Defiance dive school in Devonport (near Plymouth). I tried correcting the photos but got fed up.
E006 FOR SALE - 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA
There is one slight issue with 20,000 Leagues, another photo attached.
Twompages have stuck close to the spine. What do you think?
I don't want to rip anyone off but would ask a reasonable price and don't
want to get ripped myself. Open to suggestions.

Dear Peter, I have a copy of ‘Breathing in Irrespirable Atmospheres’ by Robert H Davies. It has been in my possession for about 50 years. As an ex Mines Rescue team captain with the National Coal Board, I found this book one of the most interesting and educational pieces of literature I have ever read. However being in my mid seventies, I think it should go on to someone who will appreciate its valuable technical and historical content as much as I have. The book has no dust cover and is a red hardback with gold lettering. It is in very good condition and a real collectors item. Full details of the content are available on the Robert H Davies link on your website. I will consider any sensible offer.
Many thanks for the opportunity, by virtue of your website, to offer this book to people with a genuine interest in history of breathing apparatus.
Kindest regards, Bert Scott, email firstname.lastname@example.org (Location: Scotland)

I have a copy of "A Narrative of the Loss of the Royal George At Spithead, August, 1782" . The book was published in 1844 and contains beautiful illustrations of the ship. The book pages and cover are intact and in excellent condition. The leather binding is cracked, however, and does need repair.
I am interested in selling this book to a good home where it will be appreciated.
Please let me know if this book might be of interest to you. Email me firstname.lastname@example.org

Gordon contacted Classicdivebooks a few weeks ago with a terrible dilema! He had two 'siebe gorman' books for sale, both signed by the man himself, Robert H. Davis. He states that the books are unused and in above average condition; both books have dust covers but these are in very poor condition. Contact Gordon direct if interested. For further information on the books offered, link on Robert H. Davis website.
